3 Ways to Be More Accessible (Without Sacrificing Your Financial Stability)

If you’re a mindfulness trainer, life coach, healing arts, or mental health professional, and you want to be MORE impactful AND be financially prosperous, then listen up:

It’s absolutely possible! You can do BOTH. In fact, I’d argue that you need to figure out both components if you want to fulfill your mission for the LONG term.

Being accessible to people at different income levels does not necessarily mean that you need to charge low rates for your private coaching, or offer your private coaching on a sliding scale.

I see this often in the healing arts and mindfulness space - this desire to be accessible to all, at all levels of service you provide (including your 1.1 private time). There can be a pressure to integrate the donation model into your own business model. But the reality is that, if you want to propel the mission forward most skillfully, you need to adequately FUND that mission. And that does necessitate that you charge certain rates for your different services and programs.

I’m going to offer a perspective to support you in honoring the time, energy, expertise and resources that go into your high tier programs, while ALSO making your work accessible to people (even those who cannot afford that high tier programming). And it’s very much centered on diversifying your revenue streams, and the services you offer.

In this post, you’ll learn:

✔️3 ways to be impactful to MORE people at different investment levels.

✔️How to make your services available on a sliding scale (without going broke)

✔️A way to think about your services, offerings and pricing that helps you earn more revenue while also remaining available to people who come to you for support (no matter their financial capacities)

Let’s dive in!

1. Lead live virtual or in-person workshops

This is an example of a low tier program that could range in cost from $27 to $97 to attend. This helps you add value in a group setting - one to many model - but without going into too much depth.

Workshops are a great way to get people immediate results, while ALSO demonstrating what’s possible. It’s a taster as much as it is a full, complete experience. And that’s the beauty of it! For some people who attend your workshop, they’ll probably want to continue on with you to get more results, and will join your higher tier programs like group coaching or private coaching/counseling. For some, the workshop may be the last stop in your ambition line. All is good!

2. Offer a group program

This is another one-to-many program model, which helps you serve MORE people (in the same amount of time it takes to lead a 1.1 coaching or counseling session). Examples can include an ongoing group coaching program, or an 8 week group program, or even a self-paced online course. These can range from $97 to $1000 (or higher, depending on the depth of content, the value proposition, etc).

For people where your high tier private coaching or counseling is out of financial reach, this offers you an opportunity to get them significant results and meet certain needs that private coaching or counseling cannot meet for them (like camaraderie, peer support, belonging). And, it’s a more affordable way to get involved and receive your support.

3. Offer your groups or private sessions on a sliding scale (and cap the number of spots available at a sliding scale)

We only have so much time. And so, you have only so much time weekly or monthly to serve your private coaching or counseling clients. Which means you have a fixed allotment of slots.

To be more flexible, why not allocate a certain percentage of spots to sliding scale. Factor in your financial goals and needs, as you decide on the number of spots you have available at any given time.
